Choosing Wellspring Midwifery means that you are receiving an individualized, compassionate approach to the latest evidence-based care. We are passionate about supporting families through their journeys of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood according to their values and choices.
For urgent concerns, you can reach your midwife 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every single day of the year. We are here for you!
Unrushed visits allow plenty of time to get to know you, your family, and your values. With a focus on prevention, our prenatal care involves extensive screening and preparation for the challenges that families may experience down the road in pregnancy, birth, or postpartum. Each visit includes an assessment of physical and emotional wellbeing, fetal growth and wellbeing, and plenty of time for questions. We offer all standard laboratory screenings, physical exams, and education. If any deviations from normal arise, we will consult with or refer to specialists as appropriate.
We attend birth at home and a local freestanding birth center between 37 and 42 weeks. Your midwife will arrive at the start of active labor will follow your cues to help labor progress smoothly while unobtrusively monitoring you and your baby. Delayed cord clamping and immediate skin-to-skin are standard at every birth. We will be there to help with baby's first latch as desired by you.
While rarely needed, we bring the same first-line emergency supplies and medication that would be used in a hospital. When birth doesn't go as planned, we offer a supportive transition to hospital-based care when needed, which usually includes in-person accompaniment.
We offer 4-5 postpartum visits, including one standard home visit and follow-ups as needed. Postpartum visits include extensive lactation and nursing support, screening and counseling for common postpartum challenges (e.g. mood disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, and sleep disturbances), and physical assessments. We are still on-call for you 24/7 through six weeks postpartum.
We provide complete well-newborn care for the first two weeks of life, after which your baby will see a pediatrician. We offer most of the same assessments, prophylactic treatments, and physical exams your baby would receive in a hospital or with a pediatrician for these first two weeks. Complete head-to-toe physical exam, tongue tie assessments, and weight gain assessments are just some of the newborn services we offer.
Everyone's journey with newborn feeding is unique, and we are here to support you. We start preparing for lactation and infant feeding during pregnancy and will be there to help support your baby's very first latch. If any issues arise, we will help troubleshoot, assess for problems, and offer treatments.
As two white midwives with considerable privilege, we humbly strive to offer midwifery care that is anti-racist, size-friendly, queer-affirming, poly-friendly, and trans-inclusive. We welcome clients no matter their age, size, gender, religion, or family structure. We actively educate ourselves to continuously improve our care.
The process of childbearing can bring up a lot. We spend the majority of your visits in conversation, discussing feelings and concerns that may be arising. We are dedicated to taking a trauma-informed approach to pelvic care and will work with you to develop a safe, trusting approach to your care.
We offer daytime, evening, weekend, home, and telehealth visits so that you can fit your midwifery visits into your busy schedule.
We offer several methods of getting in touch with the midwives and promise a quick turn-around on all messages.
The postpartum period can be a big transition, and we are prepared to help you navigate any challenges. We start discussing postpartum preparation early in pregnancy and offer a postpartum home visit for all families. A total of 4-5 postpartum visits ensures that you and your baby are well cared for.
Both midwives are clinical herbalists, specially trained for the use of botanical medicine to support many of pregnancy's unique challenges. They can recommend a safe, customized blend of herbs upon request.
Families birthing in a hospital can still enjoy our caring, customized prenatal and postpartum care. Ask us about our Monitrice services for hospital birth. Contact us for more information!
You have the option of renting a premium AquaDoula birth tub for your birth. Our team is experienced in water birth and are prepared to help you plan your dream water birth.
We are committed to providing you with accessible education so that you can make the best decisions for your family. Wellspring Midwifery clients have exclusive access to educational content based on their gestational age. Non-hierarchical shared decision-making is one of our favorite aspects of midwifery care!
Not every birth ends with taking a baby home. Your midwives can help you navigate pregnancy decision-making and can support you through a loss. We offer extensive counseling and support for clients experiencing miscarriage. While we cannot prescribe abortion medication or perform abortion procedures, we can provide information, support, and refer you to local resources.
